If you’re a professional SketchUp user, access to pre-made models is critical for efficient modeling. Don’t waste time modeling objects that are secondary to the design you’re working on. Finding high quality, low polygon models can be challenging, unless you’re using FormFonts.
If you use SketchUp professionally, you know that the more time you spend working on a model, the less money you are making. You know that it’s important to spend the most time modeling the main elements of the design, but it’s also important to have secondary objects in your model to compliment the design. Especially when creating models for rendering.
For example, if you’re modeling a house, you might want to include things such as:
- Trees and vegetation
- Household Objects
But it’s not worth it to spend the time to try and hunt down models on the 3D warehouse. Although, all the models on the 3D warehouse are free, the search function isn’t that great, and you never know what kind of quality you’re going to find on the warehouse. Even if you can find a model made by someone who is very skilled, it may be too detailed to include in your model.
What you need are professionally built models that are lightweight, and consistent in level of detail.
Formfonts is a high quality model library service that I recommend using for professional SketchUp users. They have tens of thousands of models available to its members, and their team of modelers are constantly adding more every day.
Most of their models are available in a few different formats, including: SketchUp, 3D Studio Max, AutoCAD, and Revit. In addition to models, they also have a large selection of custom SketchUp styles that you can download as well.
If they don’t have the model you’re looking for, they take requests too!
