LayOut Viewports Shifting

Matt DonleyLayout Tutorials, Tips & Tricks

If you’ve ever experienced a viewport shifting in LayOut, it can be really frustrating. In this video, I explain the cause of this, and how to prevent it.

The Cause

The reason viewports can change unexpectedly is when they are assigned to the Last Saved SketchUp View scene. This scene will update every single time you update your model, and can seriously mess up your LayOut file.

In the past, all new viewports would be assigned to this scene by default. In more recent versions of LayOut, new viewports will be assigned to the last scene you had active in SketchUp before you saved the model.

The Solution

As long as you have at least one scene in your model, you don’t have to worry about the Last Saved SketchUp View scene being assigned to your viewports.

But, if you don’t have any scenes in your model, there is another way to prevent Last Saved SketchUp View from inadvertently changing your viewport. If you override every single property set in LayOut, the viewport will be completely controlled by LayOut.
